Glare from LED panels – Intervention study

Glare caused by excessive brightness contrast in lighting design can result in eye discomfort and fatigue.  It is often a problem in open plan offices with LED panels installed in an otherwise unlit ceiling, causing health and productivity problems.

Glare caused by excessive brightness contrast in lighting design can result in eye discomfort and fatigue.  It is often a problem in open plan offices with LED panels installed in an otherwise unlit ceiling, causing health and productivity problems.

This study at a local company involves replacing LED panels with pendant lighting.  Any difference in health perception will be measured after an extended period of implementing the new design.

At the start of the study, 89% of workers said that they suffered from some kind of eye strain, while 67% complained of headaches. These findings were part of the baseline study conducted in February 2022 using VERAM (Visual Ergonomic Assessment Techniques). The study will conclude in November when there are a similar amount of daylight hours as when the baseline was taken.
